Google Analytics is a web analytics platform that collects data from your website – including information on your site visitors – and provides reports that will give detailed insights into your business.

BigCommerce and Google Analytics have now integrated in order to facilitate enhanced eCommerce tracking. In this guide, we will look at why you should integrate BigCommerce and Google Analytics, and explore a step-by-step guide on how to integrate the two.

Why you should integrate BigCommerce and Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a tool that eCommerce businesses can use to track visitors and conversions on their online store. It enables you to gain insights into your visitors. For example, you can look at what pages they are visiting the most, what channels drive the most traffic to your online store, and which of your products perform the best. There is also a feature called Google Analytics Real-Time Reports, which enables you to see how many visitors are currently viewing your online store at any time.

Google Analytics offers features that enable you to do three of the most important things as an online business:

  • Understand all of your customers
  • Keep track of all of your data
  • Plan for the future success of your business

BigCommerce’s integration with Google Analytics is an extremely powerful marketing tool that they have integrated to help businesses increase their profits. Using data from Google Analytics will enable you to learn about your online store’s performance and, therefore, understand how you are able to grow your business.

How to add Google Analytics for BigCommerce

Before integration, you must have BigCommerce and Google Analytics accounts. You may be prompted to log into your Google account.

There will be a section that requires you to enter an account name make sure to use your BigCommerce store’s name. You will then need to adjust your account data sharing settings and click the button ‘Next’.

Once you have provided all of the relevant information, click the button ‘Get Tracking ID’ and a code will appear. Make sure to make a copy of this code as you will need it for the next steps.

4. Enable eCommerce set-up on your Google Analytics account

Now go back and click on the button ‘Admin’, then go into ‘View settings’ followed by ‘eCommerce settings’. You now need to make sure that the buttons for ‘Enable Ecommerce’ and ‘Enable Ecommerce Reporting’ are both switched to ‘ON’. Now save your changes.

In order to add your Google Analytics to your BigCommerce store, go to your BigCommerce control panel and click ‘Settings’, then ‘Advanced settings’.
